This deciduous dwarf shrub has upright stems that form a compact rounded bushy habit. It has dark green heart-shaped leaves that fall during winter and the yellow throated blue tube-shaped flowers appear amongst the foliage from spring to summer.

Thunbergia natalensisis naturally found in from eastern South Africa to Natal and eastern Zimbabwe growing in grasslands or shrubland and along forest margins up to an altitude of 1500 m (4500 ft).

It prefers a protected semi shaded position and grows in well drained organic rich moist fertile soils and is frost and drought tender.
This dwarf shrub is grown for its flowers and compact rounded habit. It is planted in small shaded gardens along borders or mass planted to form a hedge. It is suitable for low-mountain regions and establishes in 1 to 2 years and is moderately long lived. It is also planted in courtyard planter boxes or grown in patio pots. ID 3185
