This shrub has upright reddish brown stems that form an open bushy habit. It has glossy dark green holly-like leaves and the small yellow pea-shaped flowers appear in a cluster at the end of the branchlets during spring and are followed by a pod.

Podolobium ilicfoliumis naturally found in Australia from south-east Queensland to New South Wales growing on the mountains and occasionally extending to the coast. It is also found in growing in the northern tablelands and the central western slopes.
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile light sandy-stony soil in an open sunny to a semi shaded position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
Native Holly is grown for its foliage and flowers. It is planted in small or native gardens along borders for foliage contrast or used as a specimen in a bushland setting. It is suitable for low-mountain regions and establishes in 2 to 3 years and is moderately long lived. This plant may also be used as a pedestrian barrier in a commercial site but may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery. ID 3177
