Grevillea plurijugais naturally found in south-west Western Australia from Point Culver to Pontoon Creek near Esperance growing in open shrubland, eucalypt woodland or mallee, spinifex and heath on sandy hillsides and near or around salt lakes.
It prefers an open to exposed sunny position with the hot dry summer and cool wet winter and grows in well drained poor to moderately fertile sandy-stony or sandy-clay soils with a limestone base with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. It is drought and light frost tolerant and regenerates from a lignotuber or by seed after fire.
The Red Plume Grevillea is grown for its spreading habit and its attractive flowers. It is planted in small or native gardens as a ground cover or as a spill-over above retaining walls and as a specimen in large rockery. It is also planted in large tubs or planter boxes and can be grown in roof gardens.
It is suitable coastal and inland regions and establishes in 3-4 years and is moderately long lived. It prefers a Mediterranean climate but has been successfully cultivated in humid regions. ID 3162
