This shrub has horizontal woody stems with no lignotuber and upright foliage that forms a prostrate habit. It has erect blue green lobed leaves and the pale woolly orange cylindrical flower heads appear at ground level from late winter to early spring.

Banksia blechnifolia is naturally found in south-western Western Australia growing between Jerramungup and Gibson in heath or mallee heath on very well drained white sandy soils. It prefers an open sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.
This Banksia is grown for its spreading habit and large flower heads. It is grown as a ground cover in garden beds or rockeries or used in coastal regions as a specimen. It establishes in 3-4 years and is moderately long lived. This Western Australia species grows well in the eastern states tolerating humid summers. ID 3160

When planting out allow ample room for growth as the plant can spread up to 3 m (10ft) wide.
