This biennial to short lived perennial herb has upright grooved stems that form a bushy habit. It has a large dark green heart-shaped leaves and the small purplish tube-shaped flowers appear in heads above the foliage during summer.

Arctium lappais naturally found Europe to northern Asia growing in disturbed soils or in grasslands. It prefers an open sunny position and grows in a well-drained organic rich moist soil, that is tending alkaline and is high in nitrogen. It is frost tolerant but drought tender.
Great Burdock is grown for its foliage and is edible roots. It is planted in small herb or vegetable gardens beds or grown commercially. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in one season but is short lived. This biennial is commonly grown as an annual for culinary purposes. ID 3155
