This large shrub to small tree has a short greyish trunk with spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has dark green oval leaves that fall during winter and the small white flowers appear in clusters during spring followed by fleshy fruit.

Cordia dichotomais naturally found from eastern Asia to New Caledonia and north-eastern Australia growing in tropical and sub tropical rainforests, dry rainforests, monsoonal forests and tidal forests. It is found on the coast or to an altitude of 1,500m (4,500ft) in the sub-Himalayan regions growing in moist shaded valleys or along water courses.

It prefers a sunny to a semi shaded position and grows in well drained organic rich moist soil but will tolerate drier soils and is moderately drought tolerant but frost tender.

The Glue-berry Tree is grown for its habit and fruit. It is planted in parks and gardens along borders for screening or as a specimen tree. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in 2 to 3 years.
