This herbaceous rhizomatous perennial has spreading foliage and foems a low clump. It has dark green rounded heart-shaped toothed leaves and the small blue bell-shaped flowers appear in terminal clusters from spring to early summer.

Synthyris stellatais naturally found in North America from Washington to Oregon growing in woodlands in well drained, organic rich moist soils. It prefers a sunny position with protection from mid day sun and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
