This herbaceous perennial has spreading mid green spoon-shape leaves in a rosette and forms a clump. It has magenta pink, cyclamen-like flowers that appear in clusters high above the foliage on a slender scape and appear from mid to late spring.

Dodecatheon meadiais naturally found in North America from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, Alabama and extending to eastern Texas. It grows in damp grasslands or meadows and in the understory of woodlands.

It prefers a well drained organic rich moist soil that is tending acidic in a semi-shaded, wind protected position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
