This perennial succulent is rhizomatous with basal leaves and forms a small clump. It has a grey green 4-angled thick-fleshy leaves and the bright yellow saucer-shaped flowers appear singularly or in small clusters above the foliage during summer.

Bergeranthus vespertinusis naturally found in the Cape Province of South Africa growing in dry sandy-stony grasslands or on hillsides at an altitude from 50 m to 1800 m (5,940 ft).

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in well-drained poor to moderately fertile sandy soils with a pH 5.5-6.5 and is frost tender but drought tolerant.

This succulent is grown for its clumping habit and bright yellow flowers. It is planted in small or arid gardens along borders or in rockeries and maybe mass planted as a ground cover.
