This herbaceous perennial has spreading woody stems that form a compact prostrate habit. It has small thick curved grey-green narrow lanced-shaped leaves and the pink to white tube-shaped flowers appear in a cluster during late spring.

Asperula gussoneiis naturally found in Italy growing on the mountains of Sicily in rocky places amongst scree at an altitude from 1,200 m (3,937 ft) to 1,800 m (5,905 ft).

It prefers an open to exposed sunny position and grows in very well drained moderately fertile sandy-stony soils that are tending acidic and is drought, frost and deer tolerant.

Woodruff is grown for its dense spreading habit, attractive foliage and its flowers. It is planted in small alpine gardens as a specimen or used in sunny rockeries. It is also planted between stepping stones as a ground cover and in rock crevices.

It is suitable for mountainous regions and establishes in 2-3 years and is moderately long-lived. This perennial is ideal for sunny patio pots or planter boxes and can be used as a spill-over above retaining walls. ID 3084
