This rhizomatous unguiculares iris has upright foliage and forms a clump. It has bright green pointed linear leaves and the beardless blue flowers appears solitary amongst the foliage from late winter to early spring.

Iris lazica is naturally found from northern Turkey to south-west Caucasus growing in moist rocky places along the margins of ponds or streams in regions with high summer temperatures.
It prefers a semi-shaded protected position and grows in well drained moderately fertile moist soils that are neutral tending alkaline and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
This iris is grown for its flowers and clumping habit. It is planted in small gardens along perennial borders or used in shaded rockeries. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing in 2 to 3 years from division and is moderately long lived. It is also grown around ponds or along water courses amongst rocks, tolerating damp soils.ID 3061
Note:
Unguiculares iris is different to other beardless iris in that they developed a mass of rhizome is above the ground and the foliage is evergreen. They also appear from autumn to spring, producing blue, violent to pink or white stemless flowers that have a long perianth tube. Care should be taken not to mulch or keep the aboveground rhizomes moist as this will tend to make them rot.
