This large coniferous tree has a solitary grey white trunk with horizontal branching forming a conical habit. It has glossy dark green needle-like leaves arranged along the pubescent branches and the male and female cones appear in spring.

Abies amabilisis naturally found in North America from southern Alaska to British Columbia and extending to Northern California growing in Pacific Coast Rangers and the Cascade Range from a sea level to an altitude of 2300 m (7,445 ft).
It grows in a temperate rainforests with high humidity and prefers an open sunny position. It grows on deep well drained fertile moist soils that are tending acidic with a pH 3.3-6. This large conifer is frost and snow tolerant but drought tender.
The Pacific Fir is grown for its habit and is planted in large gardens or parks as a lawn specimen tree. It is suitable for coastal or low-mountain regions establishing in 4 to 6 years and is long lived. Under cultivation the tree commonly grows to 25 m (75 ft) tall and is not normally planted in domestic gardens, disliking urban pollution. ID 3040
