This cormous perennial has a low spreading tufted habit with slender grass-like dark green leaves. The singular goblet-shaped flowers are white to lilac-purple and are held above the foliage on tube-shaped stem from spring to early summer.

Crocus vernusis naturally found from western Russia to Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Romania and Italy growing in meadows and woodlands from the coast to low-mountain regions. It prefers a gritty well drained moderately fertile moist soil in an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
Dutch Crocus is grown for its flowers and is planted in small or cottage gardens along front borders or in rockeries. It is also planted in drifts in woodland settings or in garden beds and is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing a small clump in 3 to 4 years.
