This small tree has a short trunk to 250mm (10 in) wide with copper-coloured bark and ascending branches that form a bushy habit. It has a dark green oblong leathery leaves and the white saucer-shape flowers appear in spring followed by edible fruit.

Psidium guajavanatural habitat is uncertain due to the widespread cultivation of the plant, but it is believed to originated in the southern Mexico extending to Central America. It is now cultivated throughout tropical America, West Indies, Florida, East Indies, Guam, Africa, India, Egypt and the Mediterranean coast of France with many cultivars available.
It prefers a well drained humus rich moist soil, and warm to hot sunny protected position and is frost and drought tender.
Yellow Guava is grown for its fruit and bushy habit. It is planted as a specimen in gardens or used along borders for screening. It is suitable for coastal regions and establishes in 2-4 years and lives for 40 years.
