Roystonea elatais naturally found in North America growing in Florida in the everglades and lowland regions around swamps or brackish water.

It prefers a well drained humus rich soil but will tolerate wet positions and grows in an open sunny position. It withstands hurricane winds by shedding fronds and is drought and frost tender but tolerates high temperatures.

The Florida Royal Palm is grown for its attractive dark green crown and is used for avenue or group plantings in parks or large gardens. It is also planted for a skyline effect and establishes in 3 to 5 years. It is suitable for coastal or inland regions and forms an emergent canopy in a tropical garden. ID 3001

Note:
This species is sometimes regarded as Roystonea regia(Cuban Royal Palm) but differs with almost round fruit and the secondary veins are less prominent on the pinnae.
