This solitary fan-palm has a closely ringed trunk, up to 300mm (1ft) wide with fibrous leaf bases at the top. The large semi-circular grey-green fronds form an open rounded crown and the small yellowish flowers appear in clusters amongst the foliage.

Livistona fulvais naturally found in Australia on the Blackdown Tablelands in central eastern Queensland growing near permanent water in gullies at the base of cliffs or along gorges up to 660m (2,000ft) above sea level.
It prefers a semi shaded to full sun position and tolerates most well drained stony soils and is drought tolerant but dislikes arid conditions and is frost tender.
Cabbage Palm is grown for its habit and is used in gully plantings on rural properties or in group plantings in parks and large gardens. It establishes in 5 to 7 years and is suitable for inland or coastal regions. It is also planted along creek embankments but the plant may be difficult to obtain. ID 2994
