Dillenia alatais naturally found in Australia from the Northern Territory to Queensland growing in monsoonal coastal forests along creeks or in rainforests around swamps.

It prefers a full sun to semi shaded protected humid position and grows in well drained organic rich moist soils and is frost and drought tender.

The Queensland Red Beech is grown for its attractive bark and rounded habit. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or along borders for screening. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for coastal positions tolerating salt spray. This is an excellent colourful rainforest tree but care should be taken as the roots can be invasive.
