This small to medium size tree has a short trunk with spreading branches that sweep the ground and forms a domed crown. It has divided leaves with glossy green leaflets and the bright scarlet tube-shaped flowers appear in a rounded head in spring.

It prefers a moist fertile organic rich soil in a semi shaded wind protected humid position and dislikes hot direct sun. It is very cold and drought tender.

The Panama Flame is grown for its flowers and its domed habit. It is planted in tropical gardens as an understorey plant or as a specimen in a shady border. It is suitable for humid coastal regions establishing in 3 to 5 years and can be grown in a bright conservatory in cooler climates. ID 2980
