This clustering palm has slender ringed trunk with black spines and is up to 200mm (7µin) in diameter. It has a pale green crownshaft and arching divided dark green fronds that form a open crown and the yellow flowers appear in a pendant cluster.

Oncosperma tigillariumis naturally found from Thailand to Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo growing on or near the coast in tropical lowland swampy regions.
It prefers an open sunny position and grows in most moderately well drained humus rich sols and is drought and frost tender.
The Nibung Palm is grown for its graceful habit and is planted as a specimen in large gardens or parks and used in avenue planting.
