This clump forming tropical rhizomatous perennial has upright short stems with oblong mid green leaves with silvery green bands. The tiny white flowers are arranged in a fleshy spadix with a boat-shaped spathe and appear during spring.

Aglaonema nitidumis naturally found from Burma to Sumatra and Borneo growing in the understorey of rainforests in well drained organic rich moist soils that are tending acidic. It prefers semi shaded to bright filtered light position with wind, cold and drought protection.
The Chinese Evergreen is grown for its foliage and its clumping habit. It is planted in small gardens as a specimen or used in tropical settings along shaded borders.
