This medium size deciduous tree has an upright greyish trunk and spreading branches that form a dense crown. The fern-like leaves are divided into dark green leaflets and the bright yellow saucer-shaped flowers appear in large clusters during summer.

Peltophorum pterocarpumis naturally found from northern Australia to Papua New Guinea, south-east Asia, Philippines, Malaysia and India. It grows on coastal flood planes that are seasonal inundated in monsoonal regions and along stabilised coastal dunes.
It prefers a open sunny position and tolerates most fertile sandy to clay loams that are moderately drained and is frost tender but slightly drought tolerant.
The Yellow Flame Tree is grown for its brilliant yellow flowers and its rounded crown. It is planted in parks, gardens and along streets as a specimen or for shade in tropical to sub-tropical regions. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for coastal regions tolerating saline conditions and used for stabilising soils.Under cultivation the tree tends to grow smaller up to 6m (18ft).ID 2919
