This shrub has many interwoven upright woody stems that are pubescent at the tips and forms a compact rounded habit. It has leathery dark green oblong leaves and the tiny white tube-shaped flowers appear in spring.

Melicytus micranthusis naturally found in New Zealand growing in the North and South Islands growing along water courses in lowland regions and in lowland forest margins.

It tolerates most well drained moderately fertile damp to drier soils in an open sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.

Manakura is grown for its intrigante bushy habit and is planted in small gardens along the front of borders or in bushland settings. It is suitable for lowland coastal regions establishing in 2 to 4 years and can be planted in patio pots or in a drier rockeries. It may be difficult to obtain outside of New Zealand. ID 2905
