This evergreen terrestrial fern and has an erect rhizome that is covered in stubs of old leaf stems and forms a dense clump. It has arching glossy dark green divided oblong fronds with toothed segments and the fertile fronds produce spores during summer.

Polystichum polyblepharumis naturally found from Japan to South Korea growing along woodland margins in the lowlands and lower mountains forming a thick spreading clump.

It prefers a semi-shaded to shaded position and grows in organic rich moist sandy to clay soils that are tending acidic with a pH range from 5.0 to 7.5. It is drought and frost tolerant but dislikes wet soils.
