Cyathea dealbatais naturally found throughout New Zealand and Lord Howe Island growing on the coast and into the lower mountains in forests or scrubland.
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile soil that tends to be dry and grows in a semi-shaded to full sun position with wind protection but is light frost and drought tolerant.
The Silver Tree Fern is grown for its upright habit with spreading fronds. It is planted singular or in groups as a specimen in parks and shaded gardens or used around a water feature for a tropical effect. It is suitable for coastal regions and establishes in 2 to 3 years and is long lived. It is also planted in court yards or on the shaded side of buildings and is an iconic feature in a native New Zealand garden. ID 2876
Note:
This fern will tolerate an open sunny position but the fronds become yellowish and wind dries the tips.
This plant may only be available in New Zealand.
