This tuberous perennial has slender upright fleshy stems that form an open clump. It has large pale green oblong fleshy leaves that are covered in silvery hairs and the orange-red tube-shaped nodding flowers appear in clusters during summer.

The Brazilian Edelweiss is grown for its flowers and its attractive foliage. It is commonly grown as a potted specimen plant or is used as an understorey plant in a tropical garden.
