This upright shrub tends to have lax branching that forms an open bushy habit. It has sticky deep glossy green lanced-shaped leaves and the red to orange trumpet-shaped flowers appear in a raceme from summer to autumn.

Mimulus aurantiacusis naturally found on the east coast of North America from Oregon to California growing in moist protected positions in coastal scrub, Redwood Forests, Yellow Pine Forests and chaparral from sea level to an altitude of 250m (750 ft).

It prefers a well drained moist, fertile soil in a sunny wind protected position and is slightly frost tolerant but drought tender.

The Monkey Flower is grown for its flowers and is planted in herbaceous borders or in courtyards and against a sunny wall for colour. It is also grown as a potted specimen and in cold climates placed under glass. It is suitable for costal regions and establishes in 1 to 2 years but is short lived. ID 2865
