This small shrub has slender interlaced wiry yellow-brown stems that form a low mounded habit. It has small green-brown linear leaves that appear in clusters and the tiny cream funnel-shaped flowers appear during spring followed by pale blue berries.

Coprosma acerosais naturally found throughout New Zealand growing along the coast in sandy-rocky locations. It prefers an open sunny position and grows in most well drained moderately fertile sandy soils and is salt spray, frost and drought tolerant.
Sand Coprosma is grown for its low spreading habit and is planted in gardens as a ground cover or along retaining walls as a spillover. It is also planted in containers and is suitable for coastal regions. It establishes in 2 to 3 years tolerating harsh conditions.It may also be grown in patio pots or hanging baskets. ID 2857
