This large shrub to small tree has spreading branches that form a rounded crown and it may form a distinct trunk. It has large bright green oblong leaves and the cream cup-shaped flowers appear in clusters during spring followed by orange berries.

Coprosma grandifoliais naturally found in New Zealand from the Three Kings Islands to coastal lowlands and lower mountain forest in the North Island and extending to Greymouth in the South Island. It prefers a semi shaded wind protected position and is drought and frost tender.

Kanono is grown for its foliage and habit. It is planted as an understorey in forests or used along shaded borders as a low screen. It is suitable for small gardens establishing in 3 to 5 years and under cultivation attaining a height of 4m (12ft). It is suitable for coastal or low mountain regions. ID 2849

Note:
In its natural environment it can dominate the landscape but under cultivation the plant is smaller to 4m (12ft) tall.
This plant is not commonly cultivated outside its native environment and may be difficult to obtained requiring a specialist nursery.
