This shrub has upright grey-brown stems with many interwoven arching stiff branches that form a cascading appearance. It has dark green rounded leaves that are notched and the tiny cup-shaped flowers appear in clusters during late spring.

Myrsine divaricatais naturally found from the North and South Islands of New Zealand extending to Stewart Island, Auckland and Campbell Islands. It grows coastal scrubland to low-mountain forests to an altitude of 1220m (3,700ft).

It prefers an open sunny position in well drained moderately fertile soils and can tolerate drier conditions but dislikes wet soils and is drought and frost tolerant.

The Weeping Mapou is grown for its intricate weeping habit and is planted in small gardens as a specimen or used in commercial settings amongst grasses. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 4 to 6 years and may be trimmed to form an informal hedge. It is also grown in patio pots or used in roof gardens.ID 2841
