This herbaceous perennial has spreading woody based stems that form a compact prostrate habit. It has small hairy grey green elliptical leaves and the 2-lipped purplish flowers appear in a dense cluster amongst the foliage from late spring to early summer.

Thymus pseudolanuginosusis naturally found in southern Europe in coastal and low-mountain regions growing on rocky slopes and in meadows.

It prefers a open sunny position and grows in very well drained moderately fertile dry shallow soil and is drought and frost tolerant.

Woolly Thyme is grown for its spreading habit and its foliage. It is planted in small or cottage gardens as a ground cover or used between stepping stones. It is also planted in rockeries as a spill-over or used in patio pots and planter boxes.

It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions and establishes in 2-3 years. The slightly scented leaves are not normally used in cooking but the plant is commonly cultivated as an ornamental. ID 2831
