This coniferous tree has a grey-brown trunk that becomes fissured with age and has ascending branches that form a conical habit. It has narrow oblong mid green leaves and the female cone is reddish brown and appears during late spring.

Keteleeria davidianais naturally found from China to Taiwan growing in damp rocky habitats in well drained poor acidic soils. It prefers an open sunny position and is frost and drought tender.
This conifer is grown for its attractive foliage and its conical habit. It is planted in parks and large gardens in damp positions as a specimen tree. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 3 to 5 years and is long lived. This tree may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery. ID 2820
