This herbaceous perennial has fibrous roots and upright foliage that forms a clump. It has dark green grass like linear leaves and the bright yellow short lived fragrant funnel-shaped flowers appear in a small cluster high above the foliage during spring.

Hemerocallis minoris naturally found from eastern Siberia to Northern China and Japan growing in scrub or woodlands and in mountainous meadows.

It prefers an open to protect sunny position but will tolerate some shade and grows in well-drained organic rich moist sandy loam to heavy clay that is acidic with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.0. It is frost and drought tolerant but dies of during hot dry periods.

The Dwarf Day Lily is grown for its flowers and clumping habit. It is planted in small cottage gardens along low borders or mass planted for bedding displays in parks and large gardens. It is also grown in patio pots and planter boxes or used in moist rockeries.
