This sub-shrub has slender woody branched stems that form a prostrate habit. It has small deep dark green oblong leaves and the deep blue funnel-shaped flowers appear profusely in terminal clusters from late spring to summer.

Lithodora diffusais naturally found from south-west Europe to Turkey and Algeria growing in coastal scrub and thickets to mountain woodland margins.

It prefers a well drained humus rich moist lime free soil that is tending acidic in an open sunny position and is slightly drought tolerant and moderately frost hardy.

This sub-shrub is grown for its flowers and its spreading habit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens as a ground cover or used in rockeries. It is also planted in patio pots establishing in 2 to 3 years and is suitable for coastal or low mountain regions.
