This rhizomatous perennial has a slender creeping stems that form a prostrate habit. It has pubescent mid green heart-shaped pointed leaves and the small star-shaped bright yellow flowers appear solitary from early spring to late summer.

Chrysogonum virginianumis naturally found in eastern North America growing in woodlands on the coast and inland.

It prefers a semi shaded to open sunny position and grows in well drained humus rich moist peaty soils and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
