This sub-shrub has spreading ascending woody stems that root at the nodes and forms an open habit. It has glossy dark green oblong toothed leaves and the small white cup-shaped flowers appear in clusters during summer.

Parahebe catarractaeis naturally found in the North and South Islands of New Zealand from coastal lowlands predominately on the western side to low mountain regions growing along watercourses, or in rocky places on cliffs in damp positions.
It prefers an open sunny position to form a compact habit but will tolerate semi shaded and grows in most well drained moderately fertile soils with reliable moisture and is drought and frost tolerant.
This small shrub is grown for its flowers and spreading habit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens along low borders or in rockeries as a specimen.
