This herbaceous perennial has fleshy creeping stems that rooting at the nodes with ascending branches and forming a prostrate clumping habit. It has olive-green rounded toothed leaflets and the tiny white flowers appear in a rounded head in summer.

Acaena inermisis naturally found in the eastern side of the South Island of New Zealand growing along gravelly river banks and in tussock grassland on the coast and extending into low mountain regions.

It prefers an open to exposed sunny position on well drained moist to dry moderately fertile soil and is frost and drought tolerant.

Piripiri is grown for its spreading habit and is planted in small gardens as a ground cover or between stepping stones. It is also planted in rockeries and establishes in 2 to 3 years and is suitable for patio pots and roof gardens. It dislikes high humidity but tolerates cold conditions. ID 2769
