This shrub to small tree has solitary or mutable trunks with spreading branches that form a open rounded crown. It has musky smelling glossy dark green, toothed holly-like leaves and the yellow centred white daisy-like flowers appear in late spring.

Olearia macrodontais naturally found from the East Cape in the North Island of New Zealand and extending throughout the South Island appearing from the lowlands to sub-alpine forests to an altitude of 1200m (3600ft).
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile moist soil in a shaded to sunny damp position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
Arorangi is grown for its foliage and its bright yellow flowers. It is planted in parks and gardens in shrub borders or as a specimen. It can be trimmed to form a hedge and is planted in shaded courtyards. It is suitable for coastal and low mountain regions establishing in 3 to 4 years.
