This dioecious large shrub is upright with spreading branches that form a rounded bushy habit. It has glossy sharply toothed oblong leaves and the tiny white flowers appear in clusters from spring to early summer followed by red berry-like fruit.

Ilex georgeiis naturally found from Japan to south-west China growing in scrub land on the coast and in the adjoining hill sides in well drained organic rich moist soils. It prefers an open sunny position but will tolerate some shade and is drought tender and moderately frost tolerant.

This Holly is grown for its foliage and its bushy habit. It is planted along borders in small gardens for screening or in public areas as a pedestrian barrier. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing in 3 to 5 years and care should be taken when positioning as it has sharp spines. It tolerates pruning to form an informal hedge. ID 2756
