This large deciduous shrub to small tree has an upright trunk with silvery grey bark and ascending branches that form a conical habit. It has glossy dark green toothed leaves and the male and female flowers appear on the same tree during spring.

Betula raddeanais naturally found in the Caucasus ranges between the Black and Caspian seas growing at higher altitudes on well drained moderately fertile moist soils. It prefers an open sunny position with some wind protection and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

This birch is grown for its foliage and small habit. It is planted in parks and botanical collections as a specimen or used in temperate gardens. It is suitable for mountainous regions and establishes in 3-5 years. ID 2752
