This large deciduous tree has a grey-brown trunk and upright branches that form rounded crown. It has very large light green oblong leathery leaves that turn yellowish in autumn and the creamy-white fragrant cup-shaped flowers appear in early summer.

Magnolia macrophyllais naturally found in south-east North America from Ohio to Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana growing in well drained organic rich moist soils that are tending acidic. It prefers an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

The Great-leaf Magnolia is grown for its flowers and foliage. It is suitable for large gardens or parks as a specimen tree or used in woodland settings. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and may be grown on the coast or inland. It is moderately deer resistant. ID 2730
