This shrub to small tree has a trunk with light brown peeling bark and upright spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has mid green oval toothed leaves and the small, saucer-shaped white flowers appear during spring.

Prunus apetalais naturally found in Japan growing along the coast and in the woodlands on the lower mountains in well drained fertile moist soils. It prefers a wind protected sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

The Clove Cherry is grown for its white flowers and small bushy habit. It is planted in small or Japanese gardens along borders or as a specimen. It is suitable for coastal or low mountain regions establishing in 3 to 4 years and is moderately long lived. It may also be grown in planter boxes or trimmed to form a hedge. ID 2700
