This shrub to small tree is upright with compact branching that forms a rounded crown with leathery glossy dark green leaves. The small yellowish flowers appear in clusters during spring and are followed by globose red fruit.

The Nepal Holly is grown for its colourful fruit and its foliage. It is planted in parks or gardens along borders or as a specimen. It is also used in Japanese gardens and is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in 3 to 5 years. This plant is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtained, requiring a specialist nursery. Cultivars may be more readily available. ID 2679
