This perennial sub-shrub is stemless and has radiating foliage that forms a compact habit. It has grey green narrow lanced-shaped leaves and the creamy-white cup-shaped flowers appear in a upright cluster high above the foliage from spring to summer.

Yucca smallianais naturally found in North America from southern California to Florida growing in sandy bluffs or grasslands and sand prairies or disturbed soils along roadsides to an altitude of 1,800 m (5,900 ft).
It prefers an open sunny to semi shaded position and grows in poor to moderately fertile sandy-stony soil and is pH adaptable. It is drought, frost and cold temperature tolerant.
