This perennial succulent has solitary or sometimes clumping rosettes of fleshy dark green lanced-shaped pointed leaves. It produces yellowish green funnel-shaped flowers in a spike on a tall slender stem above the foliage from late spring to early summer.

Agave schidigerais naturally found in North America growing from Chihuahua to Durango, Sinaloa and Sonora on rocky cliffs and in open oak woodlands at an altitude from 900m to 2500m (2,900 ft to 8,200 ft).
It prefers a well drained moderately fertile sandy-stony soil and is pH adaptable. It grows in an open to exposed sunny to semi shaded position and is wind, heat, drought and slightly frost tolerant.
Maguey is grown for its foliage with whitish threads and its compact growth habit. It is planted in small or arid gardens as a specimen or used in exposed rockeries. It is also planted in pots, tubs and planter boxes or used in roof gardens.
It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions, establishing in 2-3 years and is moderately long lived. This perennial is one of the species that tequila is made from and other uses include making rope from the fibres or soap and food from the pulp. ID 2659
Note:
Agave schidigerais similar to Agave filiferabut differs by being solitary and having longer more flexible leaves that are not thickened towards the base. It also has slightly larger flowers but both plants are found in the same region so it can be confusing.
