This shrub has upright spreading woody branches that form a compact rounded habit. It has divided dull dark green leaves and the globular pale yellow flower heads appear in clusters towards the end of the branches from early to late spring.

Acacia nigricansis naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing on the coast and inland near Esperance on coastal sand dunes and the adjoining rocky hillsides in heath or scrubland.
It prefers a very well drained moderately fertile white or grey sandy soil amongst granite outcrops in an open sunny position and is drought and light frost tolerant.
