This small shrub has a short greyish trunk with spreading hairy stems that form a compact rounded habit. It has dark green leathery linear leaves and the bright yellow saucer-shaped flowers appear in clusters along the stem from late winter to spring.

Hypocalymma xanthopetalumis naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing in open forest or woodlands.

It prefers an open sunny position in a humid coastal or inland regions and grows in very well drained moderately fertile sandy to gravely soils and is drought tolerant but frost tender.

This shrub is grown for its low bushy habit and profuse yellow flowers. It is planted in small gardens along borders or used in rockeries as a specimen and is suitable for coastal or inland regions. It establishes in 2-3 years and is moderately long lived. The flowers may be cut and used in floral arrangements and this plant tolerates humid coastal regions. ID 2616
