This shrub is upright with slender woody stems that form a rounded bushy habit. It has dark green hairy ovate leaves and the downward-facing purplish cup-shaped flowers appear in arching sprays towards the end of the branches during spring.

Thomasia purpureais naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing in scrubland on the coast and inland. It prefers an open sunny position but will tolerate some shade and grows in moderately fertile well drained sandy to light clay soils
and is drought and frost tolerant.

The Purple Thomasia is grown for its flowers and is planted in rockeries or along borders and is suitable for coastal regions. It establishes in 2 to 3 years and is planted in bushland or arid gardens tolerating dry conditions. It performs well in the humid eastern states.ID 2611
