This shrub has a slender reddish stems that form a prostrate dense habit. It has dark green thick leathery broad leaves and the small yellow tube shaped flowers appear towards the end of the branches during late summer.

Persoonia prostratais naturally found in Australia from northern New South Wales to south-east Queensland growing on the Great Dividing Range and the inland slopes.

It prefers a most well drained moderately fertile stony loam in an open sunny position and is frost and drought tolerant.

The Mat Geebung is grown for its prostrate habit and foliage. It is planted in small or native gardens as a ground cover or used in rockeries as a spillover. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing in 2 to 3 years and is moderately long lived.
