This small to medium size tree has upright spreading greyish pubescent branches that form a moderately dense, rounded crown. It has glossy dark green leaves and the tiny fragrant flowers appear in clusters during summer followed by berry fruit.

Litsea glutinosais naturally found in Australia from the Northern Territory to Queensland and Western Australia growing from coastal dunes and hill sides to monsoon forests and inland in open woodlands. It also grows from India to southern China and Malaysia along water courses.

It prefers an organic rich well drained sandy soil in an open to protected sunny position and is drought and frost tender.

The Indian Laurel is grown for its habit and foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens along borders or around water features. It is also used coastal positions for soil stabilisation and establishes in 2 to 3 years but may become a weed in some countries.ID 2546

Note:
This plant is used by the local Aboriginals for herbal remedies. The pale-brown slimy bark can be applied to sores on the body and combined with leaves it can be applied to aches and pains. The juice from the leaves can be applied to infected eyes or turned to a drink that can help control vomiting.

This plant is not commonly cultivated outside its native region and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery.
