This tall solitary palm has a smooth lightly ringed grey trunk to 600mm (2ft) wide and is swollen at the base. It has a long glossy green crownshaft and the divided fronds have droopy leaflets and small cream flowers appear in clusters followed by dark fruit.

Roystonea oleraceais naturally found in the Southern Caribbean from Trinidad to Barbados, Venezuela and Colombia growing in lowland rainforest. It prefers a well drained organic rich moist soil in an open sunny position and is slightly drought and cold tolerant but is frost tender.

The Caribbean Royal Palm is grown for its stately habit and is planted in rainforest settings as an emergent canopy or as a specimen in parks or large gardens. It is suitable for coastal regions and establishes in 4 to 6 years and is long lived. It is also planted along avenues or in groups for a skyline effect and looks simular to Cocos nucifera(Coconut Palm).ID 2540

Note:
It is the tallest species in the genus and has dark green rounded crown with up to 15-long arching fronds.
